In the very worst way Democrats working in the interests of State Rep. Jack Franks didn’t want Republican Steve Reick on the fall ballot.

They wanted going on 18-year incumbent Jack Franks to have no serious opponent.

They gathered signatures to put their fellow Democrat Jeff Lichte on the ballot.

The Dems knew Lichte wouldn’t put up a fight.

That would mean Franks–seeking a tenth term, which will give him a full legislative pension–could have the same situation that House Speaker Mike Madigan usually has:

a fake fall opponent

That would have happened had the Dems been able to throw Steve Reick off the ballot.

And the Dems did their best.

Read what the Illinois State Board of Elections Hearing Examiner Phil Krasny writes about the fight.

And, read between the lines.

The Board of Elections voted 6-2 to keep Reick on the ballot.

To no one’s surprise, the two “no” votes came from Chicago Democrats.
